Mentoring and community service

Two months ago I bumped across our city in a small green bus (school colors) with 20 freshmen girls and a few adult friends. We traveled to Bennett camp, a summer facility where disabled children and adults have an awesome time.
Our goal was to get rid of hundreds of small to large branches and sticks that had fallen during a severe ice storm earlier in the winter.
It wasn’t fun, as in picking up sticks and flicking off tiny ticks that climbed up your legs and arms, but it was fun connecting with these girls. (more…)

Upcoming Events: July
Hot-lanta, here I come! I’m excited to join other book lovers at the International Christian Retail Show in Atlanta, Georgia July 6-11.
Two new books will be released:
Making It Real: Whose Faith Is It Anyway? (Kregel, 2007)
This book gives teens an opportunity to carve away anything that gets in the way of faith — like tradition, rules, dogma, or religion as a habit, and establish a life-long relationship with a loving, living, Savior. Teens ask questions without feeling like they’ve been called into the spotlight, growing their faith into that of a follower of Christ, rather than a church-goer.

The Woman I Am Becoming: Embracing the Chase for Identity, Faith, and Destiny (Harvest House, 2007)
An honest, faith-filled take on the journey through womanhood. This book was conceived after a six-month conversation between myself and several twentysomething friends. How to sort out all the opportunities, possibilites, pressures, and expectations of womanhood.
Reflections from “older” women and twentysomethings, real-life wisdom, no-hold barred questions, and a space to journal your thoughts as you experience God for yourself and understand more about the woman you are becoming.
While in Atlanta, I’ll have an opportunity to hang out with some awesome friends. I’ll let you know more about that when I return, and share pics with you as well.
