You are the bomba!
February 14, 2008 | T. Suzanne Eller

This morning I found a card resting against my bedroom door. I shuffled out of the bedroom with my morning non-personality intact. I picked up the card and opened it and the rocking music made my hips start to move.
La La Bomba!
Tucked inside the card was a gift certificate to a local spa for a facial (my favorite gift of all time) and the words, “you are the bomba!”
Corny, I know. But what a cool way to to wake up.
Twenty-eight years. That’s how long I’ve been married. I still remember his smile when I first met him. It was genuine. Soft. Confident.
He had my heart then, and he still has it now.
I look back over the last 28 years and I see rough patches: Leslie born with physical needs, my diagnosis of cancer at 32, Ryan’s severe injuries when a drunk driver hit him, career transitions, financial worries, and more.
And yet I also see the fun times. Dancing to Stevie Nix in the livingroom. Playing with our children. Jumping on the bed. Travel. Knowing I’m always welcome to sit next to him on the couch–even if the championship game is on–and I treasure that.
Perhaps that’s the best Valentine of all. I get to hang out with a guy who I still like a lot — okay, I love him, but I also like him and that’s something that can get lost in a quarter of a century relationship. You know?
He’s at school tonight (one of those many transitions I was talking about) and it’s just me, Survivor, my La Bomba card and a few chocolate turtles.
I hope your day has been special. Happy Valentines Day to each of you. . .
