Wedding bells

March 12, 2008 | family

Melissa and Ryan, 6 weeks old

My son is getting married this weekend. My guest bedroom is filled with blue tulle, candles, snow-white tablecloths, and programs. All the details are falling place. The weather is beautiful. 72 degrees.

I’ll love the day, but I also love what this means. A new life for Ryan and Kristin.

This is what I hope for them:

  • laughter - lots of it. I hope that they laugh on their wedding day, and I hope that they are still laughing together 30 years later
  • celebrating the sacred - I pray that they’ll sense God’s presence in the ceremony. I pray that details and last-minute errands and to-do’s don’t overshadow how beautiful the day, the moment, really is. I pray that God is the center of their marriage in the good and hard times.
  • new traditions - they will create their own with traditions, a new way of doing things, as well as blending in the best from the past. How fun is that?

It’s also a new beginning for Richard and I.

I remember when he and I got married. There was tulle. Cake. Punch. Cameras. Family. Vows.

We were the young ones, the first children in both families to get married.

Richard’s parents were young. My mom was only 40. That seems crazy.

And here we are. Our babies have all grown up.

We’ve stepped up a generation. My parents and Richard’s parents are now the grandparents.

And one day we will be there, too. The whole cycle of life thing (do I hear you humming the lyrics from Lion King?)

Weddings make you think. Don’t they?

    Hi Suzie,
I just wanted to say Congratulations! I can’t believe Ryan is all grown up and married. The picture at the top of the post is so sweet. I still remember going to Sandra’s house and you were in one of the back bedrooms lying there with both babies. I was so amazed by the idea of twins. I must have been what, maybe 5 or 6 years old? They were likely the first newborn twins I had ever laid eyes on. Job well done my Sister!

    Love,
    Katie

    P.S. I’m expecting baby #3!

I love reading this and seeing that picture. I just really love the Eller family. I’m so excited for you about Ryan’s wedding. He and his bride look lovely and of course everyone else does too. Congratulations over and over! Bet you can’t wait for the grandbabies!

Hey Katie, Baby #3? Wow. That’s so cool, sis. It was nice seeing you at the MOPS group where I got to speak. The ladies were so nice, and meeting you all over again was the perfect way to end the day.

Hi Elora, I know you are a new momma. Melissa said your baby is beautiful, and that you are still just as gorgeous. : ) Thanks for being such a good friend to Melissa. She loves you.
