I wish it were my doing, but. . .

Kristin (DIL), Ryan, Josh (SIL), Melissa, LeslieSo, how do you like the new look of the website?

I’m excited about the new direction. I wanted this to be welcoming, and to be a place where I could invite readers to join me to talk about Christ, life, issues, and books.

Speaking of life, this weekend my three children and two of their spouses graduated from college.

Somehow these five graduations–in three cities–in five different facilities–were all at the same time and on the same day. Ayee!Leslie and her husband, Stephen

We attended as many ceremonies as we could, but I was torn. It simply wasn’t possible to be in five places at one time. The weekend was huge as we attended a commencement here, a convocation there, a celebration in Norman, and then a family get-together at our house on Sunday. We put $145 in gas in our tank in the space of 48 hours and lots of miles on the odometer.

But it was amazing, and I’m proud of all five of them. A family member pulled me aside this weekend and said, “Suzie, you guys did a great job.”

I appreciated the comment, but I can’t take credit for the hours I know they’ve worked. I can’t Melissa and her husband, Joshtake credit for the fact that Josh worked at a rescue mission for his practicum, while working at Starbucks to pay bills, and carried a full load of classes. Or that Leslie persevered through eight years of school to finish law school. Or that Melissa and Kristin both somehow made it through with a 4.0.

Ryan loves to say that college is the best years of your life. I watched him transition through majors–and how he came to life when he found his niche. As they read his many accomplishments as I Ryan and Kristinsat in the audience, I realized how successful that journey was for my son.

So, is it okay if this mama is proud today? Not of what I did, because honestly there were times that I stumbled through parenthood, knowing that I wanted to do well, but making mistakes and learning through them. But I’m proud of their efforts and hard work and the discipline to stick with it when things got tough.

I’d love to hear about your family and about you!

Hello, I found your website through Lysa TerKeurst and TWV2. I love the new look. Wow, all in one weekend. You deserve to be proud. I am at the beginning of my parenting journey with a 4-year-old daughter. What surprises me most is how much I learn from her. Striving to be a great mom makes me a better person in many ways. I enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing your family.
