Comments from She Speaks

June 27, 2008 | T. Suzanne Eller

At the She Speaks conference, I shared my normal working attire: blue jersey shorts, a tank top or T-shirt, barefoot, no makeup, and my hair in a ponytail.

Woman at work -- wearing a tank and jeans!

I wish you could see me now. The only thing is that I’m not wearing a ponytail. Otherwise, dead on.

Some professional, huh? : )

But it’s the words that flow and the work ethic that matters, and I can dress up when I’m traveling to conferences, eating out with my hubby, or stepping outside the door into the real world.

Here are a few of the comments from friends made at She Speaks (who thankfully don’t care what I’m wearing right now). Love you girls!

From Tammy: Your workshop was outstanding! One of my absolute favorites! Thank you for your “tips” and your “transparency.” I smile as I sit here with glasses on, hair in pony tail, wearing sweat pants!

Couldn’t help but feel the kindred spirit connection when you described your normal writing attire! On the 5 1/2 hour trip home, I read half of your teen book [Real Issues, Real Teens: What Every Parent Needs to Know] out loud to my husband…..such great advice! Thank you for your words to me about my son Evan (I’m sure you spoke to many, so no worries if you are drawing a blank!!!) I love you and am so thankful we met!

From Lindsey Kane (amazing worship leader and musical artist for entire conference): Suzers!!!!!!! Can I call you that? If not, then… Suzie! it was an honor to meet you. I’d heard a lot of great things about you; your reputation preceded you! Thank you for what you shared in the next gen talk. it ministered greatly to me! I pray our paths cross again soon!

From Lynn: Good Morning, Suzanne. I cannot tell you just how much encouragement you brought to my heart this weekend. After speaking to you at lunch, I had an appointment with an editor. After sharing my proposal, she said she could sense my passion. Thank you for lighting it again!

From Spring: I attended the conference this past weekend and heard you speak during the writer’s coffee house session. First of all, you are a wonderful speaker. I loved what you said about “writing for God does not take the place of time with God.” That really rang true with me. You made mention that you have a handout on how to write a dynamic query letter. I would love to get my hands on it. Any help I can find involving queries would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Are you sad that you missed this great conference? Hey, there’s always next year. Check out She Speaks (no, I’m not getting a kickback) and put it on your calendar. This is a really great, practical, and life-transforming conference.

Do you want to know how to write a kicking query letter? Leave a comment with your e-mail address if you want me to send you a hand out from my recent workshop at WTP.

    Hi Suzie,

Your session at the conference really blessed me! Realizing that I can serve God while living in my “real life” is encouraging. You are a dynamic speaker and I look forward to reading some of your books.

Thank you for leaving note on my blog. :)

  2. Dianne says:

I had no idea you blogged. I just bought your book (The Mom I Want to Be) for my sister and read half of it waiting for her to meet me last night. Great stuff. Sounds like a great conference!

  3. Suzie says:

Hey Dianne, I love to blog. In fact, I have three. : ) Isn’t that crazy? It’s so nice to meet you here.

I’d love to have a copy of your hand out for a “kicking query letter.” I attended your session at She Speaks and I loved it. I too came from an unfortunate homelife, and actually have my first article being published in the P31 magazine in November called “My Perfect Parent.” I enjoy meeting other over-comers!

    Thanks for your insights.

  5. Beth @ A Quest for Relevance says:

I could use help with query letters. My email address is ehingersoll@cs.com.

Thanks for being willing to share some trade secrets with all of us rookies!

  6. Linda at 2nd cup says:

I’d love to have a copy of that query handout, as well. Thank you for all that you shared at She Speaks.

  7. Amy @ Living a Blessed Life says:

Hey Suzie! Thanks so much for your talk at the Coffee House! Loved what you had to share…esp. about your writing attire. I can so relate! :-) You’ve got a GREAT website. I look forward to checking in often. BTW – I’m really looking forward to reading your fiction story on China. My youngest is Chinese and I really have a heart for China. I hope the writing process goes well for you. Praying blessings upon you, your family & your ministry!
