Shameless Audacity

July 1, 2008 | faith

I’m on a word kick this week. Words that rock my world. Words that show me Jesus.

My friend, Kris Hammonds, is a twentysomething man and is an amazing teacher. (Hey, Kris!)

He ministered to some other twentysomethings nearly three years ago and the words he spoke stuck in my heart. They are still there today. The title of his sermon was Shameless Audacity.

Sometimes I can’t sleep well. Don’t know why, and that’s another post for another day, but during those times my mind drifts to things like this scripture.

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].  Hebrews 4:16 Amplified Bible

Fearlessly

Boldly

With confidence

Really?

That seems to go against so many teachings that I’ve heard that makes God distant.

But with shameless audacity, I walk right up to him and in to his presence because that is where I will find Him, his guidance, his mercy, his love, and even his rebuke when that is what I need to course correct so that I walk toward destiny and in joy instead of falling into things that mire me down.

With shameless audacity, I run to him. I don’t hang my head. I don’t crawl to him though I know He is God. I walk in knowing that He has asked me to run to him. He is waiting for me, and for you.

When I get discouraged about a loved one who can’t seem to accept his love, with shameless audacity I call out that name to him because he loves her even more than me. She is beautiful to Jesus and he is reaching for her, ready to pull her close and heal her heart and life, just as He has so many others.

Shameless audacity.  To be without shame. To dare to be bold in spite of how you feel.

Today I will go to him. With shameless audacity. With joy. With expectation.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll write about something lighter, like the fact that I’m wearing new contacts that make my vision blurry, or that I’m going rafting tonight, or how my flowers are blooming for the first time EVER (hey mom, that green thumb finally arrived).
