Needles in the face
July 22, 2008 | Just me
How do they do it? How do women allow (pay for) dermatologists to put needles in their face to have seamless expressions and make wrinkles disappear?

Yesterday I went to the dermatologist because I found three small spots on my face. Two on the side of my nose, and one right on top of my lip. I thought they would go away, but they didn’t, so off to the doctor I went.
“You’re right, Suzie. I think these are suspicious,” he said.
Then he brought out a needle.
Have you ever had a needle inserted in the bridge of your nose? Three times? Have you ever had a needle pushed deep in your lip, twice?
I’m a tough girl, or at least I thought I was. I gripped the rails. I closed my eyes. I realized that tears had gathered at the corners of my eyes when I sat up and the wetness trickled down my cheek.
Yowser!
No botox for me–ever, if it requires needles in the face.
Next came the knife and biopsies. Which means that if it is skin cancer, then there’s more surgery ahead–on the face.
I’m not worried. I’m at peace. I look like a freakazoid today with bandaids on my lip and nose. But it’s just a few scrapes. Results come in early next week. I’ll stay in touch.
I’m not trying to make light of it. If it is skin cancer, then they’ll have to be careful to remove it and not damage the site (my face), but it isn’t life threatening. It’s the slow-growing kind.
Maybe I’ll get a nose job out of it (my daughter’s suggestion).
Wear your sunblock, girls!

Yowza! You went through all of that without being knocked out? They put me under just to clean my teeth – no needles involved!! You’re one strong and courageous woman.
My son makes fun of me – a few years ago the doctor was taking blood from him and he looked at me and started laughing. “Hey, look at Mom. It’s just like a cartoon – she’s GREEN!” I almost passed out!
I’ll be praying – please keep us posted.
July 22nd, 2008 at 10:14 amHey Tracy, Thanks. I really have a high tolerance for pain, and the meds usually make me feel bluk, so I do the whole teeth cleaning without a problem. I just wasn’t expecting this to be as painful as it was. But, today I’m doing great. I look a little scraped up, because they scraped me with a scalpel, but I feel normal! I appreciate you.
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:11 amOuch! Praying for good results for you!
July 22nd, 2008 at 7:04 pmOUCHEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
I hear ya sister (I really do feel your pain!). You just reminded me I need to make an appt. with my derm doc (slash and burn time again!).
HUGS, HUGS, and MORE HUGS TO YOU!
July 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 pmNo news yet, but I’m totally at peace. And healing!
July 24th, 2008 at 9:13 amOh ow. Any family history? Redheads are susceptible to this, aren’t we? I think my worst burn was 20 years ago, canoing on the Illinois River while in college. But I’ve never been a sun worshiper. Too painful in too many ways.
Glad to hear that even if it’s malignant it’s not too dangerous. I hope for your sake that it’s nothing!
July 25th, 2008 at 11:40 pmI’m just fairskinned, Flea, rather than it being a family thing. When I was a kid, no one wore sunblock. Today, I faithfully wear it. If I have a tan, it will be from a bottle. : )
The news is back. Basal cell on my lip and back, pre-cancerous on my nose. I see a specialist the end of the month for my lip and back, and back to the dermatologist afterwards for my nose. Still at peace, however. : )
