Denver News

I’ve been in Denver and what a week it was. It ended with a nice surprise–a gift, actually–that I didn’t expect.
I arrived at the Denver Intl. airport and found out that most shuttles don’t go to Arvada, where I needed to be for an interview on Denver Celebration, a Daystar program. I “shuttled” between three or four transportation services who all said, “check out the next guy”.
I decided to rent a car and was surprised that I could rent a beautiful 2008 silver Toyota 4runner SUV for less than the shuttles would have cost. I hit I70 West, and found Wheat Ridge/Arvada 30 minutes later.
I was on ”Denver Celebration” to talk about The Mom I Want to Be and The Woman I am Becoming with host Linda Evans Shepherd. If you tuned in and wondered why my hair was so flyaway, it was because of the fire alarm and evacuation at the hotel while I was getting ready. Nothing like running downstairs and outside with wet hair.
When they ushered us back upstairs I tried to repair the damage, but also had to get out the door and to the studio.
The next day I hopped on a shuttle to downtown Denver where I met with faculty and staff of Jerry Jenkin’s Christian Writers Guild (I’m a mentor for the guild). But before I met with them, another fire drill went off while I was on the elevator.
It was amazing to spend time with writers like Jerry Jenkins, DiAnn Mills, Robin Jones Gunn, Vickie Caruana, Stephen and Janet Bly, Sandra Aldrich, Sandra Byrd, and many others. Do you know how that if you love cheesecake, that Cheesecake Factory is the place to be? If you love writing, then I was getting to enjoy the Caramel Dulce cheesecake of writers. It sharpened me, and fueled my passion to communicate.
But then the biggest surprise.
I got to see family. I haven’t seen my sister for about 18 months. I received a text while I was in meetings that said, “we are on our way”. I ate dinner with Todd and Alysha (my nephew and his beautiful girlfriend), Kimberly (my niece), and my sister, Vicci.
What a gift!
Isn’t it awesome when you are given something you didn’t expect?
I went back to my room, happy. A white sheet of paper slid under the door.
An announcement that there would be an evacuation and fire drill the next afternoon. : )
Tomorrow I’m on my way to Dallas, and then a quiet month in September (one interview, one surgery (bluk), and lots of writing and prep time for busy October).
Thanks for stopping by, bloggy friends. I love hearing from you. Let’s see if I can make it through the entire day without a fire drill!

You must be so on fire for God that you’re setting off smoke alarms!
August 16th, 2008 at 1:53 pmWhat is UP with the fire drills?! You poor thing. But it sounds like a GREAT week.
August 17th, 2008 at 3:47 amHow neat, Suzie! Talk about things hitting the spot — hanging out with great writers and with your sis and family all in the same day! God is good, isn’t He?!
