That little “check”, what’s that about?
August 19, 2008 | Knowing Christ,Ministry Life
I received a great opportunity the other day. I wish I could tell you about it, but it’s in the works. When it’s public knowledge, we’ll chat, okay? I promise!
But there was something inside of me — a hesitancy, that I couldn’t ignore. When that “check” is there, I need to wait. Maybe I need to say no, or maybe I need more information so that I can say yes.
One night I couldn’t sleep, and as I lay there I thought about the opportunity, and I realized that it was bigger than I first imagined. Not in the sense that it would promote me or my books, but bigger spiritually.
I started to pray, and all the outside issues fell away and I saw the opportunity clearly–through spiritual eyes instead of my own.
When morning broke, I knew the answer would be yes.
In the meantime, I traveled to Denver, and then Dallas. Sunday I sat in the Watermark Church in Dallas with my SIL and daughter, and I was blown away by thousands of twentysomethings streaming into church. They say this is the generation that walks away from God, and yet there weren’t enough parking lots to hold the number of people trying to get in. They hold two morning worship services, and that day they announced a third.
There was a large truck parked outside. They brought bags of food with them and filled it up as they entered, combining traditional worship with New Testament community – feeding the hungry.
The pastor didn’t sway from the truth, but presented it in such a way that faith could be lived right now. I loved that, too. I’m still thinking about some of the Scriptures that he presented, and one thing that he said confirmed that I was on the right track.
You see, I almost took something lightly.
I don’t think we should go around carrying a heavy burden that is cumbersome, trying to pretend that we have what it takes to fix the world, but I do believe that we (sic: I) may forget that God is trying to reach the people He loves, and we might get to be a small part of sharing the good news.
So, if you think about it, pray with me today for clarity. Okay?
This weekend I’ll be in Arkansas, sharing “One Bold Move” with a group of beautiful teen girls. I’m asking God to touch the hearts of these girls, transform their lives, and allow me to connect with Him as they connect with the message. Your prayers are appreciated in this as well.

Those moments when you hesitate can often turn out to be pretty significant, huh?
