One of those stupid dreams

August 22, 2008 | just for fun

I had one of those stupid dreams last night. You know, the ones where you are somehow unprepared. Whether it’s you left your underwear at home, or don’t know the combination of your lock. Except this was a play and I had a part. I was a pirate.

I held my script, but the guy’s scarf kept covering the words. So they gave me a hand-held monitor, but I couldn’t see it because the lighting was dark. So they moved me away from the guy with the scarf and tried something else, except I forgot who I was in the play so I didn’t know where to begin.

This went on for hours, or maybe it was seconds. All I know is that I continued to say things like, “I’m sorry. I really think I can do this. I don’t know why I can’t find the words. I’m usually much better at things like this.”

And then I woke up, fighting my way through the shroud of sleep and thought, “Ah, it’s only a dream.”

I didn’t go back to sleep. Who would want to go back there?

My hubby is studying his Master’s program to be a counselor, and one thing that they study is the importance of dreams.

Perhaps he would note that I’ve been working all week to prepare for an event this weekend, or that I’m feeling the pressure of getting a book written while juggling other duties.

But the reality is that I love speaking to teens and can’t wait for this weekend. I feel prepared, but more so I feel a sense of anticipation at what God will and can do in the hearts of these girls. It’s simply not about me or my preparation, but about each and every girl that walks through that door and God’s love for her.

And my schedule is busy, but only filled with things that I love. It’s not crazy or kinetic. It’s joyfilled.

So maybe it’s just a stupid dream–or maybe there should be no more eating brownies right before sleeping.

At any rate, I’ll see you on Monday!

Happy dreams.
