Shattered boundaries

November 5, 2008 | daily ramblings

I watched as men and women, older than the majority of the jubilant crowd last night, stood with tears streaming down their faces. History was made. Racial boundaries were broken, and perhaps we have taken a turn toward a new way of thinking. Of seeing men and women and children by their character and their person, rather than the color of their skin.

Many of these have suffered at the hand of prejudice, something I will never understand or experience. Something, even as a believer, that I cannot fully understand. No one has ever judged me by my race.

I make the commitment today to pray for my president elect.

I will pray as you take the helm of a nation that needs healing in more than racial relations. We need to work together as a nation and I believe that you can do that. I will pray for issues such as health care, the war, the veterans who have come home wounded, for our economy and that as a nation we’ll spend less money, time, and effort on wants and desires and more on building a strong nation of character.

I will also continue to pray for other issues — those we disagree — such as protecting the unborn.

I will pray, and for today I will rejoice in the shattered boundaries of racism in our country.

Suzanne, what a great post. I stand in agreement with all you have said. Blessings to you…Lynn

Hi- Just thought I would come visiting today to say congrats and welcome to the P31 Party!! I read your story – a moving one that I am sure touches many. As far as the election goes, I am praying that this will be a grand opportunity for Chrsitians to speak up and shine, glorifying our Father who allows kings and govenors (and presidents and congressmen) to rise and fall. We are still a great country – a face of peace and harmony for the world to emulate.

    Again I say, “Welcome!”

Obama is just as much white as he is black. But why is everything focused on the “black” side of him. Not that I am saying it should be focused on the “white” side of him. He technically has the best of both worlds in a sense. But either way it should be more focused on prayer for him as a human being and our nation.

I think it is because in this nation for generations if you were biracial, you had all of the obstacles of race and none of the benefits of being a white man. I focus on his race because he just broke a tremendous burden of racial injustice that has not only marred our nation, but gone against all scriptures of “love one another as I have loved you” or “do unto others”. It’s a positive step. Does it eliminate or override the issues that I passionately care about? No. But I have to be thankful for the good I see in this.

    Hi Suzie –

I loved reading your blog today…my first time actually. I scanned down and saw the story of your birth and your mom’s choice of life! WOW I am praising God right now! It really struck a cord with me as we are currently in the process of a domestic adoption. I was working on our profile and was thinking of the amazing choice our birthmother (who we do not yet know) is making for her child! I am so grateful!

I also feel more passion than ever to pray for our president than I really ever had before. Last night did not turn out as I hoped but I know that GOD is still on the Throne and He is in Control! What peace.

So again I wanted to say thanks for blessing me today! By the way, I’m Megan’s sister…the one who kept coming up to you at She Speaks trying to get questions answered! :)

    Have a great day!

So true Suzie. Thank you for putting a great perspective on this. I also can not understand the prejudice of this society. Our family re-union looks like a group from the UN…white, African American, Asian, Hispanic…
And I hope to never understand what it’s like to be truly persecuted for my faith.

Prayer is so important right now.
    Sue
