The power of social online communities
December 16, 2008 | Just thinking out loud,Knowing Christ
Tomorrow I will share a funny story about the power of social online communities. We hear so much negative, but there is a lot to gain as well. New friends outside your tight social circle. Differing perspectives. Opportunities to pray for each other, laugh with friends, and to connect with old friends who have moved away.
Yes, there’s negative, too. We’ll talk about that this week, too. Can anyone say the word “addiction”?
But in balance, it can be an amazing tool. For example, today on Real Teen Faith, I share a link to an amazing online missions trip that has the potential to share the good news of the gospel from one teen to another and across the world in the span of a few days. That’s the good stuff.
YouTube is sharing the gospel. Yes, there’s lots of yuk stuff on YouTube, too, but what an opportunity to talk about Jesus, his life, his transforming power in the hearts of ordinary people, and what God has done and can do.
So, if you are on Facebook, I’d love to connect (see above). If you are a mom (or want to be a mom), I’d love to hear from you on Christian Momlogic. If you twitter, then twitter me!
See you tomorrow!

I have mixed feelings on the whole social networking thing but you bring up some of the good points about it.
