Go-karts, comedy, and cake
January 15, 2009 | Just thinking out loud, Nurturing Family
How do you celebrate your husband’s 50th birthday? Well, you pack into a car with three adult children, three suitcases, a Wii, movies, and the hubby of course and you take off for Dallas.
Then you watch Kung Fu Panda with your son on the way, a season of Scrubs, and you stop for snacks.
Once you arrive at your daughter’s and SIL’s home, you eat delicious strawberry cake and enjoy the Birthday tree your daughter has decorated, stay up playing wii, and enjoy banana pancakes the next morning.
You all pile into the car the next day (all 7 of us) and enjoy Sundance Square in Fort Worth, then dine on Chinese food, take a quick detour when you see an old-school go-kart track and watch your husband plow into your sons-in-law while your son fist pumps into the air as he races around them.
You check out a Western museum, then wait in a long line to eat way too much Mexican food and end it with laughing to tears watching improv.
It was a great weekend. You see, it started kinda bumpy. AARP sent thousands three letters to Richard in one week. Huge reminders that he had just passed a significant birthday.
But when I look back at the weekend, I can see that age hasn’t changed this guy I love.
Go-karts, comedy, and strawberry cake… Take that, AARP!

AMEN to that Sister!!! I’m just imagining how funny it will be for someone to ask for Richard’s I.D. when he tries to get his discount because they don’t think he’s old enough. lol I can totally see it happening. BTW, sounds like an GREAT weekend! My plan is to have a HUGE joint party next year when Wally hits 50 and I turn 40.

Happy Birthday to your husband. 50 isn’t old! My husband is 64. I am 40. Age is frame of mind, and your husband’s frame of mind (go-karts!) seems great.
January 16th, 2009 at 10:18 pmsweet! What a fun trip and birthday. My 40th was last week and my husband had a lunch planned, a party and my family (came to town)! Sweet time.
