In search of inspiration
May 26, 2009 | Just thinking out loud
I was waiting for a glimpse of my son as he ran his first 1/2 Marathon last fall. It was Mile 10. Across the street a cluster of kids looked anxiously up and down the street. They clutched signs like “Git R Run Mom!”.
I wish I had snapped the pic when a group of tired women turned the corner. They wore T-shirts and shorts with “Crazy Mamas” stamped across the front of their shirts.
They were exhausted, pushing through the last leg of the race.
Suddenly this little group of kids jumped to their feet and started waving their signs wildly. They screamed, danced, and laughed like wild monkeys, pointing out to the world that these were their moms. The pride was intense.
Like a jolt of Red Bull, it was just what the Crazy Mama’s needed. They waved at the kids and picked up the pace. Exhaustion was replaced with exhilaration.
One small moment in thousands of runners, but one I’ll always remember.
