fried stuff and loads of fun

October 12, 2009 | Just thinking out loud,Nurturing Family

Richard and played all weekend in Texas with Leslie and Stephen.  We had so much fun!

First, they led us to Allen, Texas – home of the outlet mall heaven. I bought the world’s softest blanket to take with me on my Compassion trip to Ecuador the end of this month. I can’t wait to see an infant wrapped in it. I plashoen to pray daily over the little one whose face and name I don’t know, but God does.

I bought a pair of very cool Nine West high heels for $14.99.

Then we went to the Texas State Fair. Oh my goodness: fried guacamole, fried peaches and cream, turkey leg, chicken gordita w/homemade tortillas, fried waffle strawberry chocolate balls, roasted corn on the cob, cookies and ice cream, and corndogs.

I won’t say who ate what, but the four of us consumed way too many calories.

We didn’t ride any rides, but I looked at lots of animals, and a chicken laid an egg right in front of me…

and Richard and I stopped to smell the flowers.

After our excursion to the fair, we went to the Cupcakery (really, I wish I was kidding) and bought fancy smanshy cupcakes, then went home to watch the OU football game.

We went to WaterMark Church, where the pastor preached a knock-out sermon that I’m still thinking about.

And then to the Farmer’s Market where we sampled lots of delicious fruit. I bought some great gourmet noodles and tons of fresh fruit and veggies to bring home. So much better than fried guacamole. Hands down!

It was fun, it was fried stuff, it was family. And I loved every minute of it.

I was reading you post this morning and how I wish I was in Texas this past weekend. Not for the fair, but for friendship. My best friendship moved there last year so her husband could pastor a church. I truly missed her! But God has allowed their new ministry to do many remarkable things that they never could have done here in Indiana, 900 miles away. I am so thankful that God has placed them in Texas in order to see the way He blesses those who surrender to His call. I do miss them, but know that God will truly bless them and their ministry.

Oh how jealous I am that you were in Texas AND at the fair! My son will be there this weekend for the OU/TX game and getting to stay at Grandma’s! Glad you got to visit with your family!

LOL! Suzanne, I think I just got a stomachache reading about all the fried stuff! Sounds like you had a great time! One thing I would love to know…how in the world to you fry guacamole?

    Blessings to you! Lynn

I just received one of your excerpt’s from my Aunt Linda this morning. Of course, I had to go to your website. The pics of your trip to Texas looked like you really had a great time. Leslie is so beautiful. All of your children are though. Have a great Day!!
