Read, think, grow: Made to Crave
January 3, 2010 | Books, Just me, Ministry Life
Proverbs 31 Ministries President, and my good friend, Lysa TerKeurst just released a new book titled Made to Crave. It’s a book that shares how Lysa discovered the issues behind overeating, and how that journey helped her lose 25 lbs, and keep it off for 2 years.
She had no idea that this book, which was just released, would create such a storm of interest. It’s hitting the bestseller list and women are sharing amazing reviews. Recently CNN picked up an article she wrote titled “When the Fat Girl Got Mad at God” and posted it on their Belief page.
When I read this article last Friday morning, there were 911 comments, and they were interesting to read. I can only imagine that by today, that number has tripled. Many of the comments slammed Lysa’s faith, irregardless of the message. Others, who were Christians, slammed Lysa for talking about food and God in the same breath. Kind of a double bind.
As a P31 team member, but honestly far before that when I met Lysa one-on-one at a conference where we were both ministering, I realized quickly that this was a woman who was the real deal. She breathes and lives integrity. She isn’t focused on where she’s going, but where others are going and how she can come alongside and encourage and cheerlead them. It’s exactly why I knew I wanted to be a part of P31, and why I had turned down other opportunities in the past. My heart was to be real. To keep in mind who I was, which is no one, except through Christ and what He desired to do for and through others. It was her heartbeat and I was excited to join a group of women who truly lived out what they spoke, who were challenged often to examine motivation and to grow spiritually, and to run after excellence.
If you’ve been struggling with this issue and you don’t want to make it about willpower or fad diets, but truly want to address it spiritually, I hope you’ll check out the book or her website, Made to Crave.
