It’s a Girl! {{P31 Whirlwind Carnival!}}

February 16, 2010 | Nurturing Family, Proverbs 31 Ministries

We’re celebrating Fat Tuesday in a whole different way at Proverbs 31 Ministries today.

Tons of giveaways! A carnival of amazing posts, prizes, and best of all lots of great new friendships.

I’m so glad you stopped by today. All of the Proverbs 31 team are celebrating something today. What am I celebrating? Let me show you…

Her name is Elle and she’s my first grandchild. Isn’t she beautiful? Elle will arrive on or around July 16, 2010. I can’t wait!

I stood in awe in the doctor’s office last week as I “saw” her for the first time. She moved her mouth. She fist pumped in the air. Her little heart beat in perfect rhythm.

I remember holding Leslie (Elle’s momma) in my arms 28 years ago. I was 22. Unprepared, but in awe of the little blond-haired, blue-eyed girl in my arms. I was totally in love with my young husband and this little human being. All I knew is that I wanted to be a good mom, to break the patterns that had gone on in my family for too many years.

I had no clue how to do that, but I trusted that my Heavenly Father would be there with me in the discovery process. And He was!

Being a mom continues to be one of the best parts of my life. It’s challenged me. It’s caused me to grow. It forced me to learn from the past so that I could unpack any unhealthy parenting baggage I might carry in.

Today I’m celebrating Elle’s impending birth by giving away a very cool Logitech Pro 9000 Quick cam. (Valued at $99.) It’s a must-have for Grammas-to-be, and for young moms who want to connect with Grammas and Grandpas that live far away.

Second prize is an autographed copy of my book, The Mom I Want to Be: Rising Above Your Past to Give Your Kids a Great Future.

How do you enter to win? Visit any one of the participating Proverbs 31 giveaway sites listed below (while you are there, enter for other prizes!) and come back and let me know which one you visited.

You get a second entry for any gramma-to-be tips!

  2. Cindy in PA says:

It’s funny because I also have a daughter away at college that I would love to connect with visually, yet I would be just as happy to win the 2nd prize of your book. Lately I’ve been noticing that I’m carrying a lot of my upbringing into my relationship with my kids. Thanks for participating in the Carnival. I’ve been to Lysa, Renee, Micca and your websites and will end with Glynnis’.

  3. Holly says:

I visited Micca’s site and Susanne Scheppmann and Lynn Cowell

    Awesome news! Congrats!! :)

  6. Marilyn says:

Anything received would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for thinking of we your readers. Congrats with the addition to your family, may God continue to bless you and yours. Enjoy the day…

SUPER CONGRATS!!! You’ll love being a grandmother; how great to know that part of you is flowing through Elle. :D My granddaughter is grown and an Au Pair in Switzerland. How much fun you will have watching Elle’s (beautiful name) life unfold as I have Heather’s. :D

I can see your sparkling smile from Michigan. :D

    Blessings, Nancy J Locke

  8. Nanci says:

What a beautiful picture. I have visited numerous sites and feel like a part of the “carnival”. Congratulations on your granddaughter. I didn’t get to have a baby until I was 36. I still enjoy my children – what a blessing from God.

  9. Susan says:

You are to LOVE being a grandma!!! My two yrd old little guy is so much fun, and like seeing life through fresh eyes again.

Unfortunately, we live 800 miles apart so a webcam would definitely be a plus :) I’ve been to Lysa, Wendy P and you… still making the rounds out there :)

  10. Kelly says:

I have visited all of the sites!! I am so very thankful to God for leading me to the Proverbs 31 Ministries web site. I could spend my whole day here! God bless!

  11. Kris says:

Congratulations! Being a grandmother is wonderful – spoiling them and then giving them back to Mom and Dad. :)

Thanks for having this wonderful contest!

  12. Mimi B says:

Wow, the time has gone so fast since you told us at Momlogic! I can’t believe they’ve already named her, too!! As for my only tip, what is she going to call you? Are you grammy, grandmama, grandma, nana, what? I think it’s an important name. :)

I would love to win the camera. We are 3 states away from my family. My daughter is at college and my other daughter is going on her first mission trip to India this summer. I’d love to be able to keep up with them via webcam.

Thanks so much for this opportunity!!

  13. Teresa says:

Um, I visited all of them :-)

  14. Pattina says:

Best advice Suz is to spoil her when you can but when she gets older be firm when needed. Just love her like I know that you will. Congrats I would love to have this webcam so that Justin can visit with his Grandma and Grandpa in Idaho.

  15. Heather V says:

I have visited Karen’s, Shari’s, Micca’s, Melanie’s, and Whitney’s and on my way to the others. What a great idea and what a great gift!

  16. Brandy says:

I went to Wendy Blight’s and whitney Capps… I plan on going to others when I am done here… thank u for sharing ur wonderful life.. I am a young mom as well I had our first daughter at age 18 almost 19…I am 31 now with 3 kids… my husband and I are high school sweet hearts and have been together since 10th grade.. so for 14yrs now.. WOW time really does fly..man, anyway I had a pretty rough childhood myself. I had a wonderful dad that went to school and worked alot to provide for us so he wasnt there much.. my mom however was the PREFECT example of the mother I DID NOT WANT TO BE!! Drugs and Alcogol consumed her(she is dying from the life long addiction now) I made a choice long b4 I conceived my first child that i would do everything I could to not be like her…thus far I have done well to not be, but I feel I may be a little on the extreme opposite… :) )) I still struggle with the affects of being sexually molested by my older brother for 6yrs that I can remember, and of course the affects of my mom not being there. It has left a huge hole, no one has been able to fill EXCEPT GOD HIMSELF… and slowly he is closing the wounds and allowing it to be easier to speak about my past. Not to mention now that my mom is dying from the affects of her past CHOICES, she has turned to me to cling to…what kind of IRONY…:))) LOL… anyway thx for the opportunity to enter to win and to share in your life…GOD BLESS U!!!!

  24. Deb says:

  25. Renea H says:

    God bless,
    Renea H

  26. Kathy says:

Gramma or Mom tip – both are the same. Several years ago I went through a lengthy period of estrangement from my daughter which was based mainly in her rebellion. God taught me then to keep my mouth shut, love her & ONLY speak what HE gave to speak. Even now that we are reconciled and our relationship is healed I – keep my mouth shut, love her & ONLY speak what GOD gives me to speak.

  27. Tracey says:

I visited Lysa’s, Micca’s and Wendy’s but planning on going to more.

  28. Olivia says:

I visit Lysa’s daily and did so this morning. I am loving this carnival (not only for the amazing giveaways!) but b/c it is introducing me to all the other P31 ladies blogs! I just had my second child two months ago and would love the camera for not only the grandparents but for the great-grandparents (both sets of my grandparents live in different states and kids grow too fast for them to miss as much as they do!).

As for gramma to be tips: what comes to mind first is to ask the grandbaby’s parents before giving her sweets. :) Or, even more seriously, enjoy every moment and your unique role as a grandmother- no one else can fill that role the way you can!

  29. Sandra Lee says:

The second best thing to being a mother is being a grandmother/Nana/Tutu…they are all blessings. Congrats and Enjoy.

I’m enjoying going to all the other ladies sites, even decided to revisit some of the others. I’m reading the Bible with Wendy this year and God is Blessing me daily.

  30. shel says:

What fun! I have been to Luann’s, Karen’s, Shari’s and yours. I hope to get to Renee’s, Micca’s, and maybe She reads. Being a gramma is great fun. I read somewhere recently that God’s gift to children is grandparents.
My gramma tip for today: if you will be babysitting this little bundle, check out the yard sales for great deals on baby gear, clothes, etc. (Beware of old cribs and car seats that may pose safety hazards.) It is very helpful to have your own baby carseat once the child is able to sit up.

  31. Lynn Cowell says:

How amazing! Seeing God’s work so upclose! Congrats again :)

  32. Cindy says:

After reading you blog about your new granddaughter, I know now how I will feel the day my daughter has her first child. Congrats! I believe that for those of us that have suffered in some way with a child/parent relationship, God gives us an extra boost. I never knew my mother because she passed away when I was just 6 months old. I sometimes wondered what kind of Mom I would be since I did not have mine to show me. I relied on God at a very young age, and he has guided me through Motherhood. I couldn’t have had a better teacher. I know he has helped me become what my mom would have wanted me to be. God made me a better Mom than I would have been without him. I visited Micca’s website.

  33. Annie says:

I am celebrating with a new learned “dance of joy” after weight loss surgery. I’m learning to be healthy and to celebrate God’s gift of life.

  34. Shannon MArklowitz says:

I am making my rounds to all the sites….usually get to read many of them daily anyway!

Grandma to be tip…..enjoy. I see how much I missed out on as a weary sleep deprived mother. I can hardly wait for grandchildren!

    Shannon

    Blessings,

A web cam is a WONDERFUL way for a gram to keep in contact with her multitude. if I win, I will give it to my mom to do just that.

    God Bless

  50. Rhonda says:

Would love the webcam for my parents to see the grandkids more often.

  51. Valerie Harned says:

Congratulations on the new grand-baby! We do not have children (on this earth anyway), but have wonderful nieces and nephews we dote on…it must be the next best thing. We have seen them grow up from birth and the oldest will be 17 this year.

I do have a brother in the military that I would love to view from afar and would use the web cam for that!

Blessings to you in your ministry.

  52. Stacie says:

I have been really wanting a webcam to connect with my twin sister who moved to Georgia because her husband is a Pastor. Times are tight and I have decided that is a luxury not a need. But it would be cool to win one! Thanks for the opportunity.

    asamjones@embarqmail.com

  53. Blessed Mom says:

I had no idea there were so many Proverbs 31 blogs. I’ve been making my way down the list. So far I’ve been to Lysa’s blog, Wendy’s blog, Tracy’s blog, blog Zoe’s blog, and Rachael’s blog.

    Rita

  57. Sharon Abbott Cowan says:

I kept the ultrasound of my greatgrandbabies (only granddaughter’s first – twins) on my office door until they were born.

  58. Leigh says:

Love the webcam. Will be stopping by all the P31 blogs today. The ultrasound is precious. I remember when I saw my daughter, who is now 13 first ultrasound, she was only a couple of weeks, and we called her smudge for weeks. Time has gone by so fast.

  59. Arla Hoagland says:

I have a webcam. I don’t need to win it. But I do have some Gramma advice for you. Drink in every drop of time you can with Elle! I have 5 beautiful grandchildren, our youngest a boy. They are precious. You are blessed. Enjoy!

  60. Phyllis says:

The webcam would be fantastic for our family, as most of our relatives live hours (or states) away.

I stopped by to visit Lysa, Karen and Wendy today (and a few others too).

I’m not a gramma (just a mom), but I’d like to offer some advice. Create special things that you and Elle can share together as she gets older. Our daughter makes “gingies” (gingerbread cookies) every year with my mom and she loves it!

  61. Melissa Reynolds says:

To be honest, I’ve went to all of the websites today! I’ve crept back to the computer all day to read and comment on everyone’s blog. Congrats on your new grandchild! I would love to have a webcam to visit with my mother-in-law (yes, mother-in-law) more frequently. We talk on the phone, text, etc., but it’s just not the same as seeing someone when you are talking!

As for who’s sites I’ve visited, so far I’ve been to Karen’s, Lynn’s, Micca’s and Whitney’s. I’m off to visit some more though!

    in Him,
    Tricia

    nicole.harris11@att.net

  65. Denise says:

    Congratulations! What a beautiful picture.

  66. Patti says:

A webcam has been on my wishlist for a while. My parents, sister and brother all live in FL and we’re in CO. It would be great to have this as a way to see them when we talk – and they could “see” their grandchildren more often. As you know, they grow up too fast! Blessings!

  67. Patti says:

ps!! I’ve visited Lysa’s, Renee’s and Glynnis’ sites so far!

  68. Stephanie Shott says:

    Hi Suzie,
My first grandgirl was born last June and I have to tell you…I finally get it. There’s really nothing like being a grandma & you’re going to be a great one! I’m so excited for you & your family.
I pray His richest blessings on you all!

  69. Stephanie Shott says:

    Hi Suzie,
My first grandgirl was born last June and I have to tell you…I finally get it. There’s really nothing like being a grandma & you’re going to be a great one! I’m so excited for you & your family.
We’re still trying to figure out what she’s going to call me…”Grandma, GiGi, Mimi, Gammy”…I don’t know, it will probably be “Abuela.” :-)
I pray His richest blessings on you all!

  70. Becky says:

Suzie, this is exactly why I entered your contest. I have a web cam and would give this to our daughter. She is a single mom with a three year old son. We could visit this way!!

  71. Stephanie says:

So far I think I have been to Micca, Karen and Wendy Blight’s sites but plan on hitting more. You ladies have some great gifts and even better “stories” to share. Thanks for all you do!

  72. Linda says:

As a grandma give the gift of a night out to mom and dad. They will need (and enjoy) to reconnect and recharge without baby sometimes! Don’t just do this once-do it many times!

I have been to many of the sites for giveaways including Micca’s & Lysa’s. Thanks for your giveaway as well!

  73. Mrs who is blessed says:

God is good!…. as mom of 12 blessings, with 5 of them at home…
7 live far away… one of them is Sergeant son in the Marines, based in Japan for 3 years with my daughter in-covenant and baby granddaughter.. the other 5 are still being educated at home… I am CELEBRATING the birth of my 10th grandbaby (#11 is on the way)…and my youth is renewed like the eagles… I wish my parents were still living to see the children..they are amazing!
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. I delight in being a homemaker and my Father loves me unconditionally.. and made me special :) tada!

  74. Jenifer says:

Congrats on your new little grand-blessing!! I would love a webcam in the home. My husband met his father for the first time about 2 years ago. My kids instantly fell in love with their new grandpa. However he lives in Georgia and we are in Kansas. So a webcam would be a nice way for the kids to “see” him. Another reason I would love one, is my grandparents, who I am very close to, travel alot. As a matter of fact they are leaving next month on a one month vaca, the longest trip yet. We will all missing them terribly and a webcam would allow us to visit while so far away. Thank you for your ministry!

  75. Alana Garey says:

God’s promises in the flesh! Know you’ll love this baby like crazy! I’m a six-times over grandmother. Each one is incredibly precious. Blessings to you and yours.

  76. Hope says:

I have commented on Whitney Capps: $30 Francesca’s Gift card. I would love the camera for my mom who is about to be a grandmother for the first time as well. What a special gift!

  77. Michelle says:

Congratulations on the newest addition to your family.

  78. Angela T Ramsey says:

I have already visited Shari, Lysa, and Glynnis’ site. CONGRATULATIONS on your grandbaby.
Would love to have a webcam. I have a niece who is going off to college, family and friends that live out of town and out of the country.

I would love to have the webcam! The only family I have besides my husband and kids is my sister who lives 6 hours away. She just gave birth to my second nephew 2 months ago, so I would love to have this so that I can see the boys grow up and visit with her…even if I can’t see her in person.

    Thank you.
