real compassion
May 12, 2010 | Compassion International
Little Eric is still on my heart. The child I met in Ecuador who washed his clothes by hand, whose single mother lived in a home carved out of a rocky wall beside the busy street.
I love that his cheeks were chubby. Nurtured with food, and with the gospel (he knew all about the love of Jesus, as did his momma), and with education, his well-being was in direct conflict with his surroundings.
That’s why I love Compassion International. It’s more than just a great organization. It’s 60 years of taking care of kids in tangible ways. It’s showing the love of Christ, instead of just talking about it.
I received a letter from 6-year-old Buli yesterday, my Compassion child who lives in India. I sent her a birthday gift and she sent me a thank you card. What did she buy with the small donation? Two chairs. “Now I can sit in my own chair instead of on the floor,” she said proudly.
What we take for granted…
And she also bought chocolate. Now, that’s a birthday gift I can relate to!
Maybe you’ve thought about sponsoring a child and didn’t know where to start. If you live in my area, let me bring some packets to you and let you choose your own child from around the world. If you live within driving distance of Oklahoma and want to host a Compassion Sunday, I’d love to come and speak to your church and share the Compassion message with your congregation.
If you live anywhere else in the world, I’d love for you to check out the Compassion site and choose a waiting child. It’s worth it, friends. It really is.
It’s life changing. Yes, for that child. Of course. But for you, too.
