soar like eagles
June 2, 2010 | Faith: Knowing Christ, Feelings: Intentional freedom
My training for the 5k continues. I rise early every morning (6:05 a.m.) and meet my friend, Amanda, to walk 3 miles. We are trying to speed up our time. At nights I sometimes run with Richard, though he’s outrunning me every time.
But on Friday we went with friends to Sparrow Hawk, a beautiful hiking area that leads to bluffs that overlook the Illinois River (actual pic above). It’s an intense hike and usually I have to stop several times on the way to catch my breath.
We were hiking with friends and two of their children, and half-way up I realized that the children and I were in the lead. It wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t hard either. When I got to the top and could see across the valley below, I breathed in. Fully. I wasn’t struggling. In fact, I felt great!
Sometimes overcoming tough life situations feel like that. You’re tired of battling. You feel like stopping. It seems there is no end in sight.
Keep walking, but grab hold of the strength that God offers as you push uphill. At some point, His strength becomes your strength. You clamber to the top and realize you’re okay. In fact, you’re more than okay.
You’re strong. You’re conditioned. You’ve discovered the joy that was there all along.
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
