she speaks
July 20, 2010 | Ministry Life
I’m tearing my attention away from Elle to focus on one of the best conferences for women who feel called to write and/or speak: She Speaks!
When I first started writing I felt isolated. I knew I had the desire, and I was willing to learn all that I could, but where would I begin? I attended a writer’s conference in Tulsa. There, I learned a lot more. Maybe too much–at one time. It was like a fire hydrant of information.
Later I transitioned from attending conferences to speaking and teaching at them. There are conferences that are good and conferences that are great. One of the best is Proverbs 31 Ministries She Speaks conference. The first time I attended I was not with the team, but I walked away appreciative of many things: the encouragement, the spiritual teaching, the practical teaching on what to do and what not to do, the bloggers’ track, the speaking and writing tracks where you actually write and speak and are critiqued. They also offer what other conferences do, such as one-on-ones with editors and networking.
Last year was my first year as a Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker, and I realized quickly that the pursuit of excellence I saw as an attendee starts from the top down. It’s a heart to serve women, and a heart to serve God by equipping women for their ministry.
I’ll leave next Wednesday. My workshop is Using Social Media to Grow Your Ministry. I will also meet with a group of women throughout, listening to their messages and offering critique and encouragement.
The conference is completely booked this year, but I hope you will consider attending next year.
I hope I see YOU there.
