nurturing a mom

August 4, 2010 | Family: Nurturing Family

Me holding my new grandbaby!

The first year of Leslie’s life was a magical blur. Surgeries for a birth defect. Play time. Lots and lots of nursing. Lots and lots of love. I thought I was the best mom ever and times felt I didn’t have a clue. When I suspected that I was pregnant when she was nine months old, I hoped I was wrong, but I wasn’t. Nine months later I had not one, but two babies. I was almost 24 years old and the mother of three.

Suddenly I was over my head. Big time.

The kids made it okay. They say that growing up was a good thing. That their young mom didn’t kill them, and even did lots of things right, even if the house was a mess at times and momma wanted to play as much as the kids did.

I’ve always had a heart for moms, especially those who desperately want to give their children something better than they received. But now that I’ve been a Gramma for two whole weeks, my heart for moms have expanded. Because I’ve been reminded all over again that it’s hard work. It’s sleep deprivation. It’s joy. It’s frustration when you don’t know what to do and they won’t stop crying. It’s amazing. It never ends.

I ran into my friends, Jill Hart and Carla Williams, at She Speaks. They also have a heart for moms. Carla is a gentle Proverbs 31 type girl, loving over 100 children over the years in her home, while heading a large publishing company. She is a grandma, a spiritual mom.

Carla is in her early thirties, a mom, a wife, a radio host, and the head of Christian Work at Home mom, helping moms stay home and yet still earn a dollar or two.

They help me at Christian Momlogic. More than help. They have vision and a voice. Their blog posts tune right in where moms live. We sat and talked and dreamed about CML, and I loved it.

My hope as an author and speaker — a communicator who loves talking about who Jesus is — is to encourage women, whether in living free or nurturing families or knowing Christ regardless of their past. These women bring their experiences and knowledge and a different perspective so we can work together to reach young and older moms who are right in the heart of parenting.

So, mom, if you are reading this, there is a resource for you. You are not alone. There is a community where you can be nurtured. I can’t wait to meet you there. I can’t wait to see you get involved.

I hope you’ll come connect with us at Christian Momlogic. Carla, Jill and I (and T) are waiting to say hello!
