May 12, 2011 | Feelings: Intentional freedom, Q&A: Dear Friend
Dear Suzie,
What happens when we are like Joseph’s brothers and we have made that one decision unaware of how tragic the consequences could really be? The book (What Happens When Women Walk in Faith) talks about it from Joseph’s side but not his brothers’.
That one act has at times paralyzed me from moving forward not only from fear of more damaging consequences but also because of guilt though I know I am forgiven. It’s only been through baby steps that I’ve been able to experience true faith and God has been transforming me in every area of my life, but at the same time, this one wrong decision holds me back and keeps me from moving forward.
Even as I write this I feel the Lord saying, “Because you won’t let go”.
A.H.
Dear A.H.,
I think you answered your own question, sis. In John 10:10 we find two sides to this scripture. The enemy tries to kill, steal and destroy. In our free will, we can allow that to happen. We can make decisions that we regret and even years later wish had never happened.
But thankfully that is only 1/2 of that scripture. The other is a promise: Christ came to give us life and life to the full.At some point we have to realize that we can’t go back. We can’t fix it. We can’t change it. We can acknowledge it. We can apologize to anyone who was hurt by it. And most importantly, we can offer it up to Him and allow Christ to redeem it. To take it and use what was meant for harm for His good.
Today, I pray that you listen to that soft whisper and invite God to fill that hurting spot in your heart and thoughts so that you can move forward and stop letting the enemy keep you stuck.
Forgiveness is for you. Grace is for you.
Suzie
