You are adopted

If you came over from Encouragement for Today, welcome!
Just this past weekend, my husband and I participated in a 5k called Titus Task. It’s an amazing event created by Noel and Lori Tugwell. After years of not having children, they adopted a beautiful child from China. Then they began the process of adopting two more children from a Haiti orphanage, Louis and Titus.
Before the papers were fully processed one of the much-loved children died of malnutrition. The Tugwells were devastated. They flew to Haiti and brought Louis home, but they never forgot his brother, Titus.
They started the Titus foundation, which raises money to help offer matching grants to families who desire to adopt domestic or international orphans. Since the inception, many little ones have found a loving home.
There were many highlights of the race. First, the beautiful diversity of children running around doing what kids do, laughing, playing. Second, the immense privilege of running with our adopted angel, Luke — our 4 month-old grandson.
Luke and Richard were the first stroller/runner team to cross the line.
The smile on his face said it all. He loved it!
Since Luke has joined our family, the scriptures on adoption have come to life. We love this little man. He’s beautiful. His smile lights us up. He’s a poop machine. He has a high-pitched cry that can burst your ear drums.
And he’s ours.
Every time God calls you or I “His child”, He loves us in a God sized fashion. We’re not perfect. At times we are a work in progress.
But we’ve been adopted as His own. Not just a creation to worship Him (which is a privilege) but in a family relationship — Father and child.
Every time I hold Luke in my arms, I imagine how much God loves each of us.
Today, maybe you struggle with knowing whose you are. If so, click on the Adopted Scriptures Download that shares who you are to God and print it out.
Put them on the fridge, or the bathroom mirror. Put it in your smart phone and let it pop up every day to remind you of God’s love.
You are adopted.
You are loved.
If you desire to impact an adopted child today, I hope you will consider these two organizations that change the world for children.

Thanks for the reminder scriptures. I don’t always feel dearly loved and mostly feel quite rejected as of late. I know that this is not how God views me, but I certainly feel it. Sometimes it is good to hear truth from others even if you know it at some level. The world sometimes yells its lies too loudly, and I know I need the reminder. Thanks.
October 10th, 2011 at 11:20 amI recently read about an adopted girl who said she will always consider her adopting mom her real mother; because her mother always told her – “although I didn’t bear you into life, I have always bore you in my heart, even before you were born.” I felt this is the greatest gift an adopting parent can tell his or her child. If this is a feeling in your daughter’s heart, let her know to tell her son when he starts asking about adoption.
October 10th, 2011 at 2:37 pmSuzie — I loved your P31 devotion today, as well as your blog post. I especially love the smiling faces at the end of the 5K race! My husband and I are both adopted, and Romans 8 has a very special place in our hearts. This past August, we celebrated my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, and the verses from Romans came to mind. I’d love for you to check out my musings on what it means to be an adopted daughter here on earth and in heaven, too: http://flourishingtree.blogspot.com/2011/08/adopted-into-great-family-tree.html
