Charlotte’s Heart revisited
December 21, 2011 | Faith: Knowing Christ
I wrote this post in 2009. It was shortly after a She Speaks event and she made an impact. Today Charlotte is battling colon cancer. In the past few months she’s gone through surgery and now she’s going through chemotherapy. Will you stop and pray for my friend today? As she faces her biggest battle yet, her faith and honesty about her struggles is real, raw, and inspiring.
I met her in the prayer room. The She Speaks conference was over and I just needed a little alone time with God. I saw a woman sitting in a chair.
“Do you need someone to pray with you?” she asked.
I sat next to her. “I’m just so grateful,” I said. “I really don’t need prayer, so much as I just want to thank God for what He’s done this weekend.”
She took my hand and we thanked God together.
I asked her if I could pray for her and then we talked. She shared her story, and it became another highlight in my week.
You see, Charlotte once tried to find happiness in a lot of places that ultimately hurt her. I won’t share the details of her story, but I will share that this is a woman in whom I saw Christ. She has a heart for others. She’s honest. She’s beautiful, physically yes, but that’s not the beauty I saw.
It was her heart.
I learned later from a P31 friend that Charlotte stayed in that prayer room for hours, sometimes into the early hours of the morning, to pray with women. She paid to attend a conference where she could be nurtured and blessed, but she gave it all up to pray with women for their hopes, or for their needs.
Today I listened to Charlotte’s story on CBN. When we talked, she didn’t mention her story had been aired all over the nation. She was too focused on listening to others.
I hope you’ll check out her story and her blog.
If you feel that Christianity is a fluke, or that you are too far from God for Him to see you or reach you, I think Charlotte’s story is a powerful reminder that faith is transforming and that God sees all of us, including you, and He loves you like crazy.

Hi Suzie,
I’m so sorry that I didn’t get to meet you at She Speaks. But I DID meet Charlotte in the prayer room, and am so grateful! I wrote about it here:

LOVED the conference. God MET ME there and touched me in a mighty way. I will never be the same!
August 10th, 2009 at 12:45 pmOh Suzie – thanks for sharing her with us. Off to find out “the rest of the story.”
August 10th, 2009 at 2:06 pmI was so blessed by you. I can’t wait to read your books. I am so humbled by your words. I truly had the best seat in the house.
August 10th, 2009 at 2:29 pmSuzie,
I had heard from many that “you really haven’t been to She Speaks until Charlotte prays for you.” We met on Sunday morning. It was a powerful time of meeting with God. That girl is anointed! And I was blessed. I’ll never forget it.
Thanks for sharing your Charlotte story.
August 10th, 2009 at 2:30 pmI too met Charlotte in the prayer room on Sunday morning and she also prayed for me. I’ll never forget her and her willingness to pray for others.
August 13th, 2009 at 6:33 amCharlotte is an inspiration! Suzanne, keep up the awesome work!
August 15th, 2009 at 11:00 pmAfter reading this blog, I went and read Charlotte’s Heart. This woman has a heart the size of Texas. I have found out first hand. In a little more than a week, she has blessed my heart beyond words. Provided guidance that I have been searching for and reached out with love and comfort that she didn’t have to offer but so graciously gave.
Thank you for sharing her story and giving me a friend!
August 27th, 2009 at 3:50 pmHow very beautiful. My heart is inspired.
